A difficult task is how to sustain motivation in life. We are just at the beginning of the process when it comes to ambitions and expectations. Motivating sparks come from them. Most people do not keep their focus on their dreams in order to fan the flames of motivation.
Triathletes must go beyond believing in their dreams every now and then. In order to sustain his desire, he must keep making choices that are in line with his desires. It is important for him to schedule his routines. A coach is needed for him. Growth requires running, sweating, and fighting. Over and over again, he must repeat this process.
Thus, attention and effort are the sustaining choices of motivation. A person’s motivation is fickle only if they haven’t paid attention to their ambitions. A diverted mind has few drives besides the basic impulses of human nature, sustain motivation not included.
The focus needs to be redirected. Consistent mental attention to our ambitions keeps the drive alive, our energies swirling in anticipation. Reviewing our goals every day, journaling about our desires each night, regularly scheduling our next steps, and visualizing what we want can all help to achieve this. Their mental focus is eroded by distractions throughout the day, which leads to their lack of motivation. For many people, their real problem isn’t that they are unmotivated, but that they are distracted, and too absentminded to sustain motivation. Maybe we aren’t getting what we want because we aren’t focused enough on what we want.
While responding to the world’s lame interests and false emergencies, we must not let our dreams die in the sunlight. While we dispatch mundane tasks of the day or wait for the right time to begin what we really want to do, we should not lose sight of our own goals. Our motivation is dragged along with our attention when we drift from our dreams into the vast sea of unawareness.
Our motives should be at the forefront of our minds. Dreams should pop with color across the dashboard of our minds every day as we hold on to our grand visions. Observe our desires coming to fruition over and over again as we meditate on what we want. It might seem to some that we are cultivating an obsession. Yes, we are. Perhaps for the first time, we are putting all our attention and zeal into something we are truly passionate about.
The pursuit of greatness and freedom should not be feared. Our motivation would fall into halfhearted hopes, flirty arousal of the heart that have no staying power without such willed attention. As I devote more time and energy to my ambitions and passions, I feel more motivated. It’s the obvious equation and the ultimate secret. Nevertheless, sustained motivation cannot be achieved by merely thinking about it; we must work toward it. The achievement of our ambitions requires a lot of effort. A lack of action prevents us from attracting or acquiring what we want. Observing how consistently a person acts toward their dreams can help us discern how deep their motivation is, isn’t it?
It is more obvious that someone lacks motivation the less consistent their effort is. Ironically, if they put more effort into it, they would be more motivated. When we have never taken the first step, we cannot feel sustained energy or commitment to completing the journey. Having ambition is important, but starting to train is equally important. Running farther, training harder, stretching his comfort zone, and working hard are all necessary steps for him to reach the finish line.
